Ovarian cysts are pockets in ovary filled with fluid most of the times, sometimes solid in nature, sometimes have blood in it – fresh blood or decomposed blood (chocolate cyst).
Age Group – puberty to menopause, more common around pregnancy and around menopause.

- Simple cyst- this are fluid filled cyst. They are named as simple because most of the time they are self-resolving
- Complex Cyst- Complex cyst shows fluid as well as solid echo when sonography is done. As the name suggests it is more complex to solve this hormonal disturbance.
- Haemorrhagic cyst- This shows bleeding inside the cyst due to rupture of blood vessels
- Chocolate cyst- This are endometriotic cyst where every month there is bleeding inside the cyst due to presence of endometrium (inner lining of uterus which sheds off every month in the form of bleeding) in the ovarian cyst. This blood decomposes and becomes chocolate coloured cyst.
